Treasure Hunting

Post by cavetrekkr on Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:37 pm

To encourage exploration and adventure on the new map, I'd like hold little treasure hunts from time to time. About once every two weeks I would go out and set up deposits of treasure (rare materials/items) somewhere on the map. This will be handled somewhat similarly to the Villain Wanted Posters thread, with each treasure having a post with casual RP backstory and information. Once a treasure is placed, it is up for grabs by all. Anyone will be able to contribute; just post the details in this thread. I'll try to keep the OP updated with active treasures.

ACTIVE TREASURES:

I like the idea. And I see no reason why towns should have to be established before you start doing this unless you want to put treasure inside of towns.

Just in case you would rather have people focus on establishing the towns rather than running off looking for loot. I do have some plans for treasure in towns, though.

How will people be able to find this 'loot'? Will clues be given?

Each treasure deposit will have a post detailing why it's there, an approximate location/direction to look in, and what kinds of loot to expect. There will probably be a screenshot too.

I don't want treasure to be too easy to find. This should be challenging, but not aggravating. Some clues will be very clear, others you will have to assume from hints in the text.

The hunting may begin this weekend, if there's enough demand!

Ruined Lab
Difficulty: ClothViolet Cloth White Cloth White Cloth White Cloth White
Status: Looted

To further his quest for knowledge, Matau keeps a lab in which to conduct various experiments. After moving into Hearthfire, he has been working with glowstone and redstone to develop methods of weaponizing light.

Details: This laboratory lies a short distance away from Hearthfire... or at least, what is left of it. The last device to be tested was the Lightstrike Array, a magical tower that channeled light through focusing crystals to create a blinding pillar of golden light. Unfortunately, an unstable design flaw caused a shockwave upon initial power-up - most of the lab structure was obliterated or weakened (the surrounding jungle was not overly harmed, thankfully)

Treasure: While the lab and its equipment are damaged beyond repair, the Array was mostly spared. Iron and gold frame members, focusing crystals, and the glowstone light sources may still be salvageable, as well as a few glass refraction tubes.

(I didn't realize that there was an image-hosting site associated with the forums, until now!)

Dig Site
Difficulty: ClothViolet Cloth Purple Cloth White Cloth White Cloth White
Status: Looted

The desert sands cover many things... some closer than you know. A man traveling from New Cerberus to Hearthfire found himself wandering through the desert, when he came upon a very well-concealed hole. Using his shovel, he was able to clear the nearby sand away from the hole and reach a dark cavern underneath. He caught a glimpse of deep blue, although he was sadly out of torches and had broken his pick. Back at the Green Fiddle Inn/Tavern in Hearthfire, he drunkenly let word slip about what he had seen.

Details: The dig site lies somewhere between New Cerberus and Hearthfire in the desert. It has been some weeks since the traveler first found it, so sand may have blown back across the entrance. Look for crushed stone and gravel in the area.

Treasure: Things buried underground experience a lot of heat and pressure. Also remember to look for the deep blue stones and a little mossy cobblestone.
